What that means day to day

  • Dear Mr Oberhauser,

    Hi Jan,

because you have been on first-name terms for four mails

  • Dear Mrs Yilmaz,

    Hello Elif Yilmaz,

because “Mrs” is nowhere on record

  • Hi Sabine,

    Hi Jan,

because Sabine is you, not the sender

looked up, not guessed

Features

A relationship profile, not a text snippet

GrußPilot finds your last sent message to a recipient, reuses its greeting and sign-off, and learns your current wording after a successful send.

  • Reuse your last greeting

The most reliable source is you. GrußPilot looks up the last message you actually sent to that address and reuses its greeting.

  • A sign-off that matches the tone

The sign-off comes from that same message – formal or casual, exactly the way you usually close with this person.

  • Formal or informal

On a first reply the incoming message is checked for salutation and pronoun forms, which in German reliably separates “Du” from “Sie”.

  • Neutral on first contact

On a reply GrußPilot uses the formality of the incoming message and the sender display name. Without an explicit title, the greeting stays neutral.

  • See source and confidence

The add-on window shows whether wording came from your last message, the tone of an incoming message, or your group default – together with its confidence level.

  • Several recipients and identities

Two named To recipients produce a personal group greeting. Otherwise your configurable group default applies. Every sending identity keeps its own profiles.

What GrußPilot does not do

  • 01It never guesses gender from a first name.
  • 02“Mr” or “Mrs” only when the display name or your own earlier salutation says so explicitly.
  • 03It does not write whole replies and never touches text you edited yourself.
  • 04When unsure it stays neutral instead of guessing.

Your mail stays where it is

GrußPilot analyses messages locally in Thunderbird only. No content, names or addresses are sent to any server – neither to us nor to an AI service.

  • No cloud LLM, no generative AI
  • No product telemetry in version 1

Frequently asked questions

How does GrußPilot know how I address someone?

From your last sent message to exactly that address. If there is none, a reply is based on the incoming message’s formality and the sender display name.

Is my whole mailbox searched?

No. It searches specifically for a few matching messages to the current recipient. There is no upfront indexing of your mailbox.

Why does it sometimes only suggest “Hello Anna Müller”?

Because a title is not on record. GrußPilot never derives gender or title from a first name. A formal “Mr” or “Mrs” greeting is used only when the display name contains that title explicitly.

What if I edit the text myself?

Then GrußPilot leaves the greeting in that draft alone. On sending, your actual version is learned.

Are my emails uploaded?

No. Analysis runs entirely locally in Thunderbird. No message content, recipient names or addresses are transmitted to our servers.

What does your server see at all?

Only the license key, a randomly generated installation ID and – if you send them – the version numbers of the add-on and Thunderbird for support. License key and installation ID are stored server-side as HMAC values only.

Is there telemetry?

Not in version 1.

How many installations are allowed?

Up to 3 simultaneously active installations for one person.

I have a new installation and get an error.

The device limit is probably reached. Deactivate an old device in the add-on settings; the slot is freed immediately.

What happens on a refund?

The license is deactivated and the add-on falls back to Free on the next check. Your locally stored rules are kept.

Which Thunderbird version do I need?

Testing starts against version 152.0.1 as installed on the development machine. A supported ESR version is checked additionally in a separate environment before any compatibility is promised in the catalog.

Does it work with HTML and plain text?

Yes, both formats are supported.
